(OIT on the second floor sells these for about $12 each)

NOTE: It is not mandatory that you get these, although some of you may want them for storage....especially if you have a Zip Drive on your computer at home. While working on projects in Aderhold you can store files in "the DropBox" which I will explain to you later.

b. A few (3 or 4) floppy disks. You probably already have some. If not, you can buy these just about anywhere.

c. Packet of Class Handouts. You will either pick these up at Bel-Jeans or I will have them in class. I will let you know which one. (About $12.00)

d. Notebook (About $2.00)

M. We will relate everything we do in this class to how it can and will benefit you as a teacher. We will explore ways technology can help you manage your class, how technology can help you instruct in your class, how technology can help you evaluate your class and how technology can help you better communicate with everyone, but most importantly your students and their parents.

We will also explore how all of the applications you learn in this class can be used by both you, the teacher (teacher centered activities) as well as your students (student centered activities.)

C. Reading and Email Assignment: "Benefits of Technology in Education" Using this reading as a reference, pick the one "most appropriate" benefit you see for using technology in your future classroom. This should be a benefit for your students. Email me today with an explanation and justification for your choice.
 
 

6. August 30, 2000 -- Wednesday

Discuss FILE MANAGEMENT

A. Introduction to the Internet

B. Search engines and how to use them

C. Begin surfing (Scavenger hunt, ERIC searching, etc.)

D. Reading and Email Assignment: "Ethics on the Internet" by Michael Covington - Read and email me your reaction. It should address all of the major topics Dr. Covington discusses. Areas you might discuss include: Do you agree with him? What did you learn that you did not know before? What is the most important area he covers? This response should be at least two paragraphs in length.

NOTE: If you should finish both of these assignments before they are scheduled to be turned in, you are still expected to come to class. I will have some secondary assignments for you to complete that will give you the opportunity to explore the Internet more.

B. Reading and Email Assignment: Read and memorize the "Six Stages for Learning the Use of Technology."
Email me two reasons why you think I had you read this paper?

B. Turn in Web Assignments and Word Processing Assignments by the end of your class period today.

C. Reading and Email Assignment: Read "Graphic Design Principles and Technique" and email me the design element that you think is most important when developing your title page for your Internet site. Explain in detail, why you think this is the most important design element.

You are expected to be in class every day, exploring PowerPoint even if you finish these assignments.

C. PowerPoint Presentation must be done by the beginning of class on Monday, November 27, 2000. (In other words, finish it today, I know you won't be working on them over the holiday.)
